Design Practise - I was asked to design a book for Mohsin Hamid’s short story ‘Alien Invasion in the GLAC’. I decided to design to this story because I felt it gave me the freedom to experiment with a wide range of idea’s down to its sci-fi genre. A key theme throughout the book is confinement, as the humans are confined to a triangle shaped city of Lahore. I decided to create a typeface which confines itself to an isometric grid, giving the type an interesting aesthetic coming from the Aliens point of view. The forms of the letters from this typeface are then used throughout the book to create an interesting visual storytelling dynamic, relevant to each spread.
