Ethical Design - Water Ways is a charity based app (i’ve created and designed) aimed at students and their peers. Focusing on managing your water consumption by means of your diet. Water Scarcity has been a huge problem for poor countries for many years, but the western lifestyle has done little to tailor its consumption to support a shared water community. Clean water is a human right, but for millions of people it is becoming much more a commodity, something has to change. Water Ways confronts this issue by making consumers aware of the water footprint of their foods and by giving more thoughtful alternatives. Small changes can make a big difference. I researched many water charity’s, and found that the only way individuals can make a difference is fundraising, and mainly, donating. This could be an issue for young people, students to be precise, because money isn’t necessarily at their disposal. Water Ways allows you to contribute without having to donate, this allows younger people to become much more involved in the process of change. I found during my research that keeping a consistent and simple layout and navigation can keep users interested and informed, and also how certain colours can nudge users into where I intend them to go. Creating an app was perfect for this message, because it offers the users the chance to take action instantly, and can allow them to keep updating their actions on the go. I think this has resulted in an extremely successful outcome that combines easy to a use familiar navigation system and a clean playful aesthetic to inform and allow users to take action against a very important ethical issue. ©
